Environmental Policy
AMC is committed to nurture its staff to care and protect our environment. We incorporate environmental protection in our strategic decisions and conduct our business in a manner that balances the environmental and economic needs of the communities in which we operate. All staff must have an access to this Environmental Policy. The Environmental Policy should be regularly referred to in decision-making. It is to be included during the induction of new staff, board members and volunteers.
We will:
Comply fully with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations;
Work with our partners in a concerted effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner;
Monitor, evaluate and continually improve our environmental management practices to ensure efficient use of the limited resources;
Create a cleaner and greener environment by making continuous efforts to be energy-efficient and to practice Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
WASTE Management
We will reduce waste where possible by thinking about what we buy and how we use it.
Non-essential documents and emails will not be printed.
We will endeavour to avoid disposable cups and food packaging bought for the events and use plant based compostable foodservice packaging instead.
All food waste produced during the events will be put in biodegradable bags and recycled responsibly.
We will ensure all printing and photocopying is done on double-sided paper.
We will think about how far a product has travelled to reach us and what the carbon footprint might be.
We will reuse whatever possible by trying to find a second life for items especially paper and office stationery.
Scrap paper will be used for taking messages and for writing notes or draft copies of documents.
Envelopes and packaging will be reused where possible.
All of used printer and/or toner cartridges will be recycled and a log of the numbers and dates sent will be maintained.
We will make sure that there are enough paper recycling bins throughout the office for all staff to easily recycle their waste paper:
at least one paper recycling bin per office;
paper recycling bins by each photocopier and printer
Ensuring all paper products purchased are 100% recyclable.
Just because a product is recycled or recyclable doesn’t mean it is necessarily environmentally friendly. The materials used could contain hazardous chemicals or be made alongside non-environmentally friendly products. With all wood and paper related products that are not made from recycled materials, we will ensure that they come from sustainably sourced suppliers.
ELECTRICITY Management:
Energy-awareness stickers and posters will be put on the walls to encourage staff to switch off lights and/or equipment when not needed.
All staff will disable screen savers on the computers to cut energy consumption costs. They consume more energy compared to allowing monitors to dim by power management.
Having multiple applications or programmes open slow down the computer and uses more power. Computers will be manually put to sleep when staff leaves the desk and if it will not be used a period of time.
A comprehensive shut-down checklist will be created for holidays and all staff will be briefed on it.
HEATING:
Heating will only be used if necessary.
Appropriate temperature will be maintained at all times.
Heating will be switched off before closing the office.
