Thousands of people united for one day to celebrate the cultural DIVERSITY of the WORLD in Aberdeen.

World Music, Dance, Theatre, Food, Crafts, and much more!

29th of July at Westburn Park

Aberdeen Mela – One World Day 2018, which will take place on the 30th of July at Westburn Park, will be a day of music, dance, theatre, song & amp; stories that celebrates and brings together diverse communities in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland along with the many international visitors from the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. This vibrant & cultural festival uses culture, arts, food and family with activities to highlight the richness of many different cultural groups in the area. It is a day for all the family where sharing each other’s lifestyles, cultural diversity & amp; ethnicity is at the heart of everything.

Alongside these festivities and cultural exchange the festival also looks to promote a greater awareness of global development issues to motivate and inspire those already involved to act to achieve a more just world and also demonstrate opportunities for people to get involved.

Aberdeen has a varied community, and taking inspiration from similar events occurring in Glasgow and Edinburgh that are extremely successful at raising awareness of the various cultures and integrating communities, we believe the Aberdeen Mela Festival is essential to bring cultural integration to Aberdeen and the North-east of Scotland.

Last year over 4,000 people attended The Aberdeen Mela in Union Terrace Gardens and around 6,000 people watched some of the street performances as part of the AIYF’s Festival in the City event. For 2018 we are hoping to have upwards of 5,000 attendees sampling the performances, diverse catering, craft stalls, children’s activities and workshops.
